Great Baddow Cricket Club - Senior Honours

CLUB AWARDS

BA COPSEY AWARD

The premier award within the club generally awarded for the most outstanding cricket performance of the year, bowling or batting. It was first presented in 1948 by a former President, the late Mr H. (Jim) Copsey and commemorates his brother B.A. Copsey, a member of the club for a number of years before he died at an early age. From 1948 to 1991, five clear seasons had to elapse before a recipient became eligible for the award again. In 1992 this was reduced to three years.

REG STEBBING CUP

Reg Stebbing was a long-serving member, both as a regular player and, for many years, the Club Hon. Treasurer. On his sudden death in 1978 his widow asked that Reg be commemorated in the form of a cup, to be awarded to the most promising young player under the age of twenty-one years. Having won this award the recipient is not eligible to win it again.

ANDY NELSON-COLE AWARD (Third Eleven Trophy)

The arrival of Andy Nelson-Cole at GBCC in 2007 was a perfect example of luck and good timing. Andy led the fledgling side for a full season of friendly games in 2007 and was accepted into Division Eleven one season later, a major step forwards in the progress of the club. Unfortunately Andy’s health had begun to deteriorate in the autumn of 2007 and he was unable to lead his side in any of the league matches the following season, sadly succumbing to his illness in the spring of 2009. Despite such a short playing career with our club he is rightly regarded as the father of our third eleven and the award was named after Andy in honour of his achievements and as a memorial to a very fine man who made such a lasting impression in a very short time with us.

DEREK WISEMAN AWARD (Sunday Eleven Trophy)

The introduction of the Taylor and Nelson-Cole Awards prompted the Club Committee to achieve symmetry by introducing an official Sunday Eleven trophy for the player considered to be the best performer during the season. It was unanimously agreed to name the award after Derek Wiseman as an appropriate recognition of his long and distinguished service to the club.
