Great Baddow Cricket Club News story

Presidents Match & 50 Years service for Pete Tuxill

11 Jun 2014

Presidents Match - Sunday 5th July - 2pm Start at Baddow Recreation Ground.

This date should be given extra special importance this year as not only is it a special game for the Club but it is also a chance for us to recognise Club President - Pete Tuxill for 50 years dedication and loyal service to our fantastic cricket club.

Pete was a player for around 40 years and when the whites were hung up they were replaced with a flat-cap, pipe and an umpires coat. Aside from being respected as both a player, umpire and stalwart of the Club he has also held down numerous official posts that include Equipment Secretary, Grounds Representative, Chairman and President.

Thanks to the efforts of Andrew Clark we have seen the Club's history taken back to our first recorded match in August 1791 against Chelmsford. A definitive list of the known playing members of Great Baddow Cricket Club has been traced back as far as records would allow and following extensive reviews over 18 months this is now ready for publication (hope there is nobody missing!). The list starts with one Charles Alfred Bell as player number 1 back in 1834 based on the first detailed match report and moves all the way through to last season where Jovett De Cordova-Harris became player number 1321. The list will be available to review on the 5th July and players will have an opportunity to place an order for their own embroidered baggy green cap from our chosen supplier Warsop Stebbing.

Lets see as many current and former members, families and friends as we can during this special day and make sure Pete has a day to remember.
